PowerPoint tutorial for teaching units set to audio
Tutorial for asynchronous teaching-learning scenarios with Microsoft PowerPoint (for MacOS and Windows)
Microsoft PowerPoint can be excellently used for asynchronous teaching by adding an additional audio track to the slide presentation. Everything that you normally present to the students in the lecture hall or seminar room to accompany your slides can be recorded by you on your own PC or Mac for asynchronous further use - and without additional technology or software. This audio track becomes an integral part of your existing PowerPoint file. This file is made available to the students, who then work through this prepared multi-media teaching unit independently.
For this scenario, we provide you here with a comprehensive tutorial package that enables you to easily create such an impulse presentation for your digital teaching yourself. Ole Herbold (eBüro team) and Mareike Schumacher (forText team) have taken particular account of the fact that the interaction between teachers and learners takes place without direct interaction as usual, and give tips on how to counter this hurdle on a didactic level, for example, with the use of short videos.
The complete package “PowerPoint Tutorial” consists of the following files:
- Handout “Screen Presentation” (.pdf): In the format of a classic A4 handout as a PDF file, we explain step by step how you can set a screen presentation to music yourself and develop it in a didactically reflective way. - Our handout is available in two versions: one for teachers with MacOS computers (PDF file) and one for those with Windows computers (PDF file).
- “Example presentation” (.pptx): We then transferred the graphic elements of our handout directly into a PowerPoint presentation and recorded the text content on the audio track. This gives you an immediate example of how such an asynchronous teaching unit can look and how it works. Remember to click on the loudspeaker symbol on each slide to hear the spoken content. You can view our sample presentation in edit mode or in full-screen mode under the menu item “Screen presentation”. - Our sample presentation is available in two versions: 4:3-Format (PowerPoint file) and in 16:9-Format (PowerPoint file).
- UHH Design PowerPoint Template (.pptx): We have already created a pre-configured sample template for you that implements the UHH design. - Our PowerPoint template is available in two versions: in 4:3-Format (PowerPoint file) or in 16:9-Format (PowerPoint file).
- “Example presentation for advanced learners” (.ppsx): For teachers who are already more familiar with PowerPoint, we also explain more advanced Windows-specific functions of the programme in a comprehensive sample presentation. This file starts immediately in full screen mode, as it is saved in the screen resentation format .ppsx.. The sample presentation (PowerPoint file) can be downloaded.
On the question of format: According to your technical requirements, you should choose our sample template in the slide size 4:3 or 16:9. However, please also bear in mind that your students will have very different technical equipment - from relatively old computers and operating systems to very new touch devices with mobile apps as a basis for presentation.
- More manuals on PP can be found on the DL-portal page (in german).
PowerPoint presentations - online recording and video export
Is it possible to record a PowerPoint presentation at the time it is presented synchronously via Zoom in order to forward it asynchronously?
Yes, in response to a request from philosophy teachers to our team, Gregor Schulz has written a new handout (PDF, created 10/2020).
