Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Humanities (EKGW)
The consideration of ethical issues in research projects is seen as increasingly important. Many third-party funders (e.g. EU, DFG) and journals recommend or require ethical reflection or prior review in research involving human subjects. The legal framework is regulated by the DSGVO. Researchers are obliged to comply with it.
The Ethics Committee at the Faculty of Humanities (EKGW) advises researchers at the Faculty of Humanities on ethical issues relating to their research projects. Ethical advice is provided exclusively upon request and on a voluntary basis. The specific ethical guidelines of the respective professional societies are regarded as the basis for ethical advice.
The ethics committee can act upon request
- if serious and comprehensible ethical concerns are raised,
- if a vote is requested by a third-party funder or an institutional cooperation partner,
- if an ethics vote is requested by a publication organ.
For ethical issues in the processing of student theses and doctorates, the respective academic supervisors are responsible. If the above-mentioned aspects are concerned, the supervisors, together with their supervisees, can of course submit an application for a review by the EKGW.
If you wish to submit an application for ethical advice, please read the guidelines (pdf) first. Pay particular attention to the hazard and risk assessment for research abroad.
To submit an application, please use the tabular form (docx). You can submit your application to one of the two chairpersons. Please send all required documents summarized in a PDF file by e-mail.
