Grounds, Norms, Decisions
The emerging field “Grounds, Norms, Decisions” examines various types and expressions of cause-and-effect relationships. The focus is on questions of causality, metaphysical explanations, and epistemic reasons on the one hand, and on questions of reasons for action, decision-making processes, and the interaction between procedures and results of collective decision-making and their normative evaluation on the other. In addition to basic research on the content and logical structure of the central concepts, important areas of application include the descriptive and normative analysis of socially relevant decision-making problems.
In addition to the Department of Philosophy, the Department of Economics and the Department of Political Science of the
Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences are also involved. They bring together globally recognized expertise on the above-mentioned topics, which enables them to fruitfully explore content-related links and structural parallels between the various debates and methodological approaches of the disciplines involved.
