The Early Modern World
Since 2011 the Faculty of Humanities has offered an interdisciplinary focus on the early modern period. In the last few years, a series of structural measures have sharpened the focus area’s long-term profile. This profile takes into account the fact that the Faculty of Humanities is home to established researchers in all historical early modern period sub-disciplines, all of whom work together intensively and continually. Since the Faculty’s founding in 2005, it has strongly encouraged such cooperation, and strengthened it with several new appointments. This cooperation has led to the Faculty’s participation in numerous international congresses, joint publications, and lecture series. Moreover, The Early Modern World focus continues to evolve. It is participating in two collaborative projects, and is involved in several further research projects funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, of which two are long-term projects.
Brief details of our current projects are below. In terms of its disciplinary breadth and level of interdisciplinary networking, early modern studies in the Faculty of Humanities have assumed both national and international scholarly importance.
