The Early Modern World
The emerging field “The Early Modern World” is led by the Faculty of Humanities and enjoys a high degree of visibility and very strong research capabilities, both nationally and internationally. This is thanks to a strategically oriented appointment policy and a corresponding structural development process that has been consistently implemented since 2011.
One focus within the emerging field is the interdisciplinary study of religious historical processes in the 15th to 18th centuries and their manifestations across the entire spectrum of historical media. In this way, significant contributions are made to a better understanding of the religious culture of (post-)modernity and the lasting influence of early modern mentalities up to the present day is reconstructed. The range of disciplines involved is very broad and brings together outstanding research expertise from the fields of German studies, English studies, Romance studies, Modern Greek studies, Latin studies, history, history of philosophy, Sinology, musicology, art history, Jewish studies, Ethiopian studies, and Protestant and Catholic theology.
