New Professor of North American History and Public History: Prof. Dr. Nina Mackert

Since October 1, 2025, Prof. Dr. Nina Mackert has been Professor of North American History and Public History in the Department of History.
Nina Mackert completed her master's degree in history, gender studies, and political science at the University of Hamburg in 2007. She then went on to earn her doctorate in history at the University of Erfurt in 2011 with a dissertation on “Juvenile Delinquency: The Productivity of a Problem in the United States from the Late 1940s to the 1960s.” Since 2012, Nina Mackert has been involved in two research projects in Erfurt as a research assistant and, most recently, has been employed at the interdisciplinary LeipzigLab “Global Health” since 2019. In December 2024, she completed her habilitation procedure, also at the University of Erfurt, with the thesis “The Calorie: A History of Measure Food, Bodies, and Choices” and received her teaching qualification in modern and contemporary history.
