New Professor for North American Literature and Culture: Prof. Dr. Florian Sedlmeier

Prof. Dr. Florian Sedlmeier is the new Professor of North American Literature and Culture at the Department of Language, Literature and Media II since April 1, 2025.
Florian Sedlmeier studied American Literary History, Modern German Literature and Sociology in Munich. In 2010, he completed his doctorate in English and American Studies on the topic “Rereading Literary Form: Transpositions, Paratexts, and Postethnic Literature around 2000” at the University of Salzburg and his habilitation on ‘The Field Imagination: W. D. Howells and Literary Realisman’ at the FU Berlin in 2020. The Venia Legendi was awarded for the field of North American Literature and Culture. After holding positions as a research assistant in Salzburg, junior professor at the FU Berlin, visiting fellow and research professor at UCLA as well as various substitute and visiting professorships, Florian Sedlmeier has been a temporary senior academic advisor and substitute professor at the Ruhr University Bochum since 2022.
