New Junior Professor of Turkish Studies: Prof. Dr. Alexander Balistreri

Prof. Dr. Alexander Balistreri is the new Junior Professor of Turkish Studies at the Department of Asia-Africa Studies since April 1, 2025.
After completing a Master's degree in Middle Eastern Studies at Princeton University in 2008 and a Master's degree in Turkish Studies at Sabancı Üniversitesi, Istanbul, in 2011, Alexander Balistreri received his PhD from Princeton in 2021 with a thesis on The Persistence of the Periphery: Domination and Change in the Anatolian-Caucasian Borderlands. Between 2009 and 2017, he held teaching assistantships at the universities of Princeton and Istanbul. He has been an assistant lecturer at the Department of Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Basel since 2017 and a senior lecturer at the Asia-Orient Institute at the University of Zurich since 2021.
