Research sabbatical

University teachers have the opportunity to apply for a research sabbatical after eight semesters of teaching. Professorial teaching completed at other universities is considered. There is no legal entitlement to a research sabbatical. Junior professors are not eligible for research sabbaticals (see Guidelines on the LVVO, pdf, German only).

Applications for the granting of a research sabbatical must be submitted

by April 30 for a research semester in the summer semester of the following year or
by October 31 for a research semester in the winter semester of the following year

to the Office of the Dean via the Dean's Front Office. Please follow the instructions in the guidelines (pdf, German only) and use the current application form (docx, German only).

Legal basis

The legal basis for the granting of research sabbaticals is the administrative regulation dated 05.02.1975 (as amended on 04.12.1986, German only).

After completion of a research sabbatical, the corresponding short report on the results of the research sabbatical must be submitted promptly with a corresponding deadline and not only with the application for the next research sabbatical. This regulation applies for the first time to applications for a research sabbatical for the summer semester 2023.
