The Department of Languages and Cultures of Southeast Asia, in collaboration with the Hamburg Society for Thai Studies (HGT), is organizing Thai Day 2025: an all-day cultural event under the motto “Threads of Time: Preserving and Shaping Thai Fashion” to be held at the Asia-Africa Institute on Saturday, 14 June 2025, from 09:30 to 17:00.
This year’s event delves into the rich traditions of Thai textile weaving and fashion, exploring how hereditary craftsmanship, once passed down in families and villages, has evolved into a vibrant modern industry and symbol of Thai identity. Insightful keynote presentations by Prof. emer. Dr. M.L. Pattaratorn Chirapravati and Asst. Prof. Dr. Natawat Jatuphatwarodom will highlight the journey of royal fashions and sustainable practices in Thai textiles.
Guests will enjoy a colourful cultural programme including a traditional Thai dance, a fashion show featuring iconic handwoven textiles, captivating Thai musical performances, and an engaging quiz competition for students. The Royal Thai Embassy in Berlin and the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Munich will offer perspectives on career opportunities for students interested in Thai and Southeast Asian Studies.
Join us at the Universität Hamburg to celebrate the enduring artistry, innovation, and spirit woven into every strand of Thai culture. All are welcome!
