International young researchers in Hamburg

We offer you the opportunity to pursue advanced academic qualification within the interdisciplinary, structured doctoral program run by the DFG-funded Research Training Group “Interconfessionality in the Early Modern Period” (GRK 2008). Up to 18 doctoral candidates in the humanities work together to achieve their academic goals.

Research focus

The Research Training Group examines processes of interconfessional exchange in the early modern period (sixteenth to eighteenth centuries) in both the German-speaking world and other European and non-European contexts (e.g., Italy, England, the Greek Orthodox world, South America, and China). The Group is particularly interested in theological, literary, political, and artistic phenomena that define or overcome the boundaries between the emerging confessions (interconfessionality) or that are common to both (transconfessionality). We expect candidates to demonstrate openness to questions about the history of media that go beyond the way heterogeneous confessional precepts are reflected in different artefacts: by focusing on individual historical examples, we seek to understand how literature, painting, sculpture, theater, the fine arts, and sacred music have documented, varied, influenced, and reinforced these precepts.

Application requirements

A university degree in one of the following subjects: Protestant or Catholic theology; German studies; English studies; history; Romance studies; modern Greek / Byzantine studies; Latin; Jewish studies; Chinese studies; historical musicology; art history.

Pay, term of contract, hours, language

You will be employed as a research associate at salary scale TV-L E13. The contract will run for max. 36 months. You will be expected to work 25.35 hours per week (65% position). German and English are the Group’s working languages.
