Activate automatic subtitles in Zoom
1 July 2025, by DL-Büro GW
You are able to make your Zoom meetings more accessible by activating the new live captioning option in Zoom. To do this, you must first activate the option in the Zoom web app. After logging in, search for “Settings” in the menu bar on the left-hand side. Then select the “Meeting” option. Under the heading “In Meeting (Advanced)” you can activate “Automated captions”.
In your Zoom client, you can now click on the “Show captions” option in the toolbar at the bottom of the window during a meeting. If the option is not displayed, you will find the setting under “More”, visible as three dots in a circle in your toolbar. Once activated, the subtitles should be visible in a separate subtitle window.
If you would like more detailed information about the function, you can watch the video tutorial (available in German) on the Lecture2Go platform or read the corresponding instructions on the Zoom support page.
Note: The setting for subtitles must be made by the owner of the meeting (host) in the Zoom web so that all participants can manually activate the subtitles in the Zoom meeting in the toolbar.
