During your stay
This is the right section for you if you just arrived in Hamburg as a visiting student at the Faculty of Humanities. During your stay, you can expect exciting academic opportunities and the vibrant life of a cosmopolitan city. This page offers you information to help you organize your everyday life at the University of Hamburg and in Hamburg in the best possible way - from settling in on campus to participating in events and tips on leisure activities.
You must register with the city for the duration of your stay in Hamburg. After your arrival, you have two weeks to book an appointment at a customer centre of the City of Hamburg. You can find more information here.
Please send us your Confirmation of Arrival together with a corresponding proof (e. g. flight ticket, train ticket or similar) after your arrival by email to: erasmus.gw"AT"uni-hamburg.de. We will send back the signed Confirmation of Arrival by email asap. Alternatively, you can come to our Erasmus Office of the Faculty of Humanities during our office hours and we will be happy to sign the original Confirmation of Arrival for you.
After submitting your STiNE application overview (“printout online application”) and your proof of health insurance, you will be preliminarily enrolled and receive a temporary semester ticket, which is valid for one month.
In order to receive your student ID and the final semester ticket, you must pay the reduced semester contribution for Erasmus+/SEMP students. You only pay the semester contribution after you have received the payment request in your STiNE account (under "Studying > Documents > OnlineZahlträger"). Once your payment has been made, you will receive your final semester ticket and your student ID, which will then be valid for the entire semester.
The semester ticket is a full Deutschlandticket and is valid nationwide for public transport and regional transport – please find out about the validity of the Deutschlandticket here: https://www.hvv-deutschlandticket.de/de/faq.
If you would like to extend your studies at the University of Hamburg, first ask your home university whether an extension of your Erasmus+ stay is possible. If you receive approval from your home university, we will be happy to confirm the extension as well. If your home university rejects an extension within the Erasmus+ program, you may apply at the University of Hamburg as a free mover for an additional semester.
If you are spending your semester abroad at the University of Hamburg and encounter difficulties with the allocation of grades or ECTS , for example, the following information will help you.
