Before your stay
This is the right page for you if you have already been accepted by your home university for a scholarship within the Erasmus+ program. We are delighted that you have decided to study at the University of Hamburg and that we will soon be able to welcome you to the Faculty of Humanities.
After you have been nominated by your Erasmus+ coordinator or the International Office of your home university, you will receive all important information about your stay and studies at the University of Hamburg from the Erasmus Office of the Faculty of Humanities.
You will receive an email from the Erasmus Office of the Faculty of Humanities inviting you to register via our STiNE study information network (including step-by-step instructions) as well as information on all documents to be submitted for enrolment.
- We require the following documents for your preliminary enrolment:
- PDF of your STiNE application overview ("printout online application")
- proof of your German language skills, proving at least level B2 and not older than 2 years (does not apply to native speakers of German)
Exception for students at the Institute of English and American Studies: Please submit proof of your English language skills (at least B2). - please send us these two documents after we have asked you to do so by email to: erasmus.gw"AT"uni-hamburg.de

- Required for your complete enrolment:
- payment of the semester contribution
Erasmus+/SEMP students at the University of Hamburg pay a reduced semester contribution.
Please transfer the semester contribution as soon as you find the “OnlineZahlträger” in your STiNE account under "Studying > Documents". - proof of health insurance (EHIC/GHIC/AT11):
In order to be finally enrolled at the University of Hamburg, you must either have statutory health insurance or be exempted from compulsory insurance by a German statutory health insurance company (e. g. because you have a European Health Insurance Card “EHIC”). Students who do not have an EHIC/GHIC/AT11 must take out health insurance in Germany.
Please note: Do not take out travel health insurance, as this will not be accepted for enrolment at the University of Hamburg.
After payment of the semester contribution and proof of your health insurance, your semester certificate (certificate of enrolment) will be made available in your STiNE account under "Studying > Documents".
Please submit your digital Learning Agreement online via EWP.
If your home university does not participate in EWP yet, you can send us your Learning Agreement as a PDF file via email. We will then forward it to your academic Erasmus+ coordinator for signature and then send it back to you.
We do not set deadlines for the receipt of Learning Agreements, please follow the requirements of your home university.
- You can access the course catalogue to create your Learning Agreement. The new course catalogues are published at the beginning of February for the summer semester and at the beginning of August for the winter semester.
- Important: Please note that the signature of the academic Erasmus+ coordinator at UHH on the Learning Agreement does not confirm your participation in the individual courses. You must discuss the possibility of participating in individual courses and the number of ECTS to be achieved directly with the lecturers.
- Our ECTS overview of the Faculty of Humanities serves as an initial orientation – the ECTS allocation in the individual courses may differ from this. You must discuss the amount of ECTS to be achieved, the coursework to be completed (e. g. written exam, term paper, etc.) and whether you can receive a grade in the course with directly with each lecturer at the beginning of the semester.
Exception: Courses that you take at the Language Centre of the University of Hamburg have a predetermined number of ECTS (3 or 6 ECTS). You can find the amount in the individual courses in the course catalogue on STiNE.

We will then formally register your stay in Germany with the BAMF. The BAMF will check your documents and issue a certificate of eligibility for the entire duration of your stay in Germany, provided that all requirements are met.
The notification must be made at least 30 days before your arrival in Germany.
Once you have received the housing application from us, please complete, sign and return it to erasmus.gw"AT"uni-hamburg.de by the deadline. Unfortunately, applications that are incorrect or sent after the deadline cannot be considered. We will inform you as soon as possible whether a room is available or whether you need to find accommodation in Hamburg on your own. Due to the limited number of rooms available, we cannot guarantee that you will receive a room in the student dormitories of the Studierendenwerk Hamburg.
If you do not wish to be accommodated in a student hall of residence or you were not offered a room via the application procedure, here are some helpful tips for finding a room on the free housing market.
