• The City of Hamburg organizes emergency childcare for permanent employees in the technical/administrative sector. Information on this can be found on the website of the University of Hamburg's Family Office.
• The Studierendenwerk Hamburg runs playgroups outside of regular childcare hours for children of students and teachers who attend events in the late afternoon and early evening as part of the “Casper” project. The Studierendenwerk also runs three daycare centers near the campus and offers regular free counseling on the topic of “studying with children.”

The Faculty of Humanities provides access to a parent-child room for employees and students. This room can be used for changing diapers, breastfeeding, and caring for children.

Additional diaper changing facilities are located in the women's restrooms on the ground floor of the two wing buildings ESA East and ESA Werst, as well as in the men's restroom on the first floor of the ESA East building.

Research assistants and junior professors at the Faculty of Humanities who have family responsibilities (e.g., childcare, caring for relatives) can apply for support from an undergraduate research/ teaching assistant.

The maximum amount of support is 10 hours of assistance per month for a total period of 12 months (120 hours of student assistance per application). Applications can be submitted twice a year by informal email to the faculty's equal opportunities officer by the deadlines listed below.

• The application deadline for a student assistant contract starting on April 1 (or later) is January 15 of each year.
• The application deadline for a student assistant contract starting on October 1 (or later) is July 15 of each year.

A maximum of three applications can be considered per semester. Reapplications are possible in principle and will be reviewed according to available resources.
