The Picture Database of the Federal Archives

245,000 pictures, aerial photographs and posters are currently available online in the Digital Picture Archive of the Federal Archives. The picture inventory begins in the 1860s and extends to the present day. You can use the database without registering and search for images. You can access the homepage of the Digital Picture Archive of the Federal Archives via this link. If you register, you can also use the notepad. You can search for images using a full-text search, an advanced search or a search by subject, person and place classification (subject search). Photographs of the Photo Department of the Press- and Information Office of the Federal Government can also be found using the keyword list. Tips for searching the database are also provided by the Digital Image Archive on this page. In addition, you will also find a large stock of digitised files, films, sounds and maps in the Federal Archives.
