Professional Training Series "Towards Inclusive Academic Cultures" – first workshop on November 8, 2024

In collaboration with the Cluster of Excellence "Understanding Written Artefacts", the Equal Opportunity Office of the Faculty of Humanities has launched a professional training series entitled "Towards Inclusive Academic Cultures: Valuing Diversity, Combating Discrimination, Sharing Power".
The series comprises five trainings to be held between November 2024 and July 2025. More details on the series can be found here.
The first training in the series will be held by Dr Yulia Kozyrakis (factor-D Diversity Consulting) and will focus on strategies to foster inclusive cultures in academic settings.
When: The training will be held on Friday, November 8, 9 am - 1pm, at Warburgstraße 26, Room 2002.
Who: The training is open to all early-career researchers in the Faculty of Humanities and at the Cluster of Excellence "Understanding Written Artefacts".
It will address the following topics:
- Diversity, equity and inclusion: drivers & barriers
- Principles of an inclusive culture: self-reflection, courage and commitment
- Unconscious bias as a barrier to an inclusive culture: examples and effects of bias in the work context (self-reflection)
- Anti-bias strategies and tools
- Addressing unconscious bias and microaggressions in others: case studies (courage)
- Basic principles of Nonviolent Communication and options for action when discrimination occurs
- Allyship: recognizing your own privilege and using it to support others (commitment)
- Personal Implementation Plan: What can I contribute to a more inclusive organizational culture
